Ecology.IT, a sustainability and technology consultancy, completed the application process for and signature of the American Public Transportation Association’s (APTA) “Sustainability Commitment” this week.

The APTA Sustainability Commitment, founded in 2009, sets out common principles, an action plan, and a course for progress. The Commitment, which counts a total of 106  signatories from business and agency members, supports the exchange of good practice and aims to mark the overall achievements in sustainability made by the public transportation industry. Through the commitment, the public transportation industry is demonstrating its significant contribution to and measurable leadership on sustainability.

“Companies are beginning to understand the economic and social benefits to their organizations of integrating sustainability into their processes and practices,” says ecology.IT founder Angela Miller.  “A natural synergy between exists between the public transit industry’s core mission of providing equitable, safe, and efficient service, and sustainability principles.  Ecology.IT believes in the inherent value to both transit agencies and private industry of signing the APTA Sustainability Commitment and leveraging its principles through our organizations.”
